Brow VS Brow | Benefit & NYX
Monday, July 04, 2016
In the last few years, eyebrows have become a
huge focus when it comes to anybody. All over social media, posts about
eyebrows being ‘goals’, glitter brows, big brows, small brows, dark brows,
light brows – you name it. It has probably been a trend at once, or will be a
trend. There’s no right or wrong when it comes to brows, a lot of the time it
depends on the shape of your face, eyes – all that kinda jazz. I’m not an
expert though so don’t take my word for what eyebrows depend on haha.
When it comes to brows, you have ALL my
attention. I absolutely love brows, in particular dark, thick, messy brows – I
don’t know why I’m so obsessed with unruly brows but they just, UGH I love them
ok. But don’t get me wrong, I LOVE when I’ve just plucked my brows and they’re
absolutely on point. That just makes me feel like I have my whole life
together. When in actual fact I have 28623162 essays to write and a room to
tidy and blog posts to write – you get the idea?!
If you haven’t already grasped, I love
eyebrows. As part of my makeup routine, when I’ve just plucked them, other
people’s eyebrows – all brows. Which has made me want to do a blog post for a
while on them (I swear I say this in every blog post about everything lol). I
still haven’t done a brow routine in terms of how I pluck them and do them by
myself and how you guys can do the same. But hopefully I’ll get round to that
soon, don’t worry! (I highly doubt anybody is worrying but just in case, ya
know?!)
Now, my eyebrows are naturally very messy,
dark and kinda all over the place. I saw a photo on my time hop the other day
from year 9 and let’s just say that was a bad, bad time for the brows lol. I
didn’t have a clue about them and was too nervous to pluck them or get them
done in case it went wrong. Till I was around 15, my mum bought a self-wax
eyebrow kit. It was just plastic strips with a sticky side, not the whole wax
kit lol. Any who, I couldn’t use that well so my mum did it for me and ended up
punching me in the eye J it also didn’t get rid of any of my eye brow
J So I ended up plucking them, getting
straight to the point basically. In all honesty, I can’t remember what they
were like at first but all I know is that they’ve been good for the last couple
years and I now love my eyebrows. I figured out how I like them, what products
work best, when to pluck them, all that good stuff.
Seen as I like eyebrows so much and have
recently been using the NYX Tame & Frame Tinted Brow Pomade, I thought why
not do a review on it?! But I feel like all I do now is reviews and I don’t
want my blog to ONLY be full of reviews – even though I love doing them, I
gotta jazz it up a little. Ok this is hardly jazzing it up as it is kinda like
a review, but you get the point.
SO… Instead of simply reviewing one of the products
– I decided to also review the new Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil.
I am rather familiar with both of these
brands and do use them both in my everyday makeup routine, but seen as I’ve
only been wearing my NYX Brow Pomade recently and the Benefit Brow Pencil is new,
I thought it’d be a good idea to test them both out and see which one is
better!
Firstly, the NYX Tame & Frame Tinted Brow
Pomade:
Shade: Espresso
Price: £5.50
Pigment: 10/10. I use the shade Espresso which is one of (if
not) the darkest shades they do in the brow pomade as I have black eyebrows and
it works a dream. I can apply it in the gap just under my brow (over plucking
is a bitch) and it still looks natural.
Formula: 10/10. The formula is nice to work
with, it’s pretty thick and I feel like a little goes a long way with this
product, you sometimes just have to press on a little harder when applying it
in the actual brow opposed to when outlining.
Wear: 9/10. This product honestly lasts me
all day. I apply the Maybelline Translucent over the top mainly to keep the
hairs in place but also in case any smudging could occur – which is doesn’t.
I’ve had 9 hour shifts when I’ve worn this and honest to God, it lasts the
whole way through (bearing in mind I’m pretty much a waitress so constantly
walking around the restaurant, when it’s hot as well).
Application: 8.5/10. The brow pomade didn’t
come with any additional brush or anything which does mean you’d have to buy
one separately if you don’t already have one, but you can get them for SO cheap
on Amazon. Just type in ‘angled brushes’ and you’ll be sure to find one, even
if it’s an eyeliner brush. The brow pomade comes in a little plastic container
and is so easy to apply, just put the brush in, get the product on the brush
and use a light stroke/strokes to outline the brow. You can use a heavier hand
to fill in the brow though!
Next, Benefit Proof Goof Brow Pencil
I have seen SO many of my favourite YouTubers
receive these new brow products by Benefit. I can’t say Benefit is one of my
favourite brands even though it is a pretty good brand, although I use their
bronzer, mascara and lip gloss (they are some of my favourite make up products
though I must admit). So trying this out, I had a feeling it would be a good
product anyway but, you never know…
Price: £18.50
Pigment: 7.5/10. I first tried to swatch this a little on my hand and I didn't really know what to think. The pencil was kind of sharp and nothing was showing up until after several times of trying to swatch it and then it showed up. Despite this, when it was on my actual eyebrows, it was very pigmented and dark which suited my eyebrows really well!
Formula: 8/10. Linked to the point made above, at first the formula didn't seem the best especially when it came to showing up. But overall, it isn't bad and is just like any other brow pencil. Although it seems less soft and more of a harder formula which might reflect on the way it didn't show up when first trying it out.
Wear: 8/10. The wear of this brow pencil isn't too bad. After applying this, I didn't apply any of the translucent brow gel I normally use which keeps the hairs in place. Therefore, it did smudge a little but I don't know whether this could've been because I used too much of the product or because I didn't use the gel. But if I did use the gel, I definitely think the wear would've been better, also if I used less product.
Application: 9/10. I really loved the application of this Benefit brow pencil! I feel that because it is a pencil it is really easy to control, especially when you're outlining the brow. The application is probably what I loved most about this product. Due to the easiness of it, it would be a key makeup item for carrying around in my bag and using it on the go!
On a side note, I absolutely ADORE the packaging of the Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil!!
The Benefit Goof Proof brow pencil is definitely a product I would recommend as it is overall a pretty good product. But due to the fact that NYX Brow Pomade is one of my all time favourite products now, I would have to chose NYX over Benefit! It could be completely different for someone else, they might hate the NYX Brow Pomade and prefer Benefit. In this case, NYX is better suited for me and is definitely something I will continue to purchase in the future!
I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post! Let me know in the comments below your favourite brow products and any that you recommend for myself or anyone else!
Thanks for reading!
